NETWORKING

NEtwork like a pro!

We know, the thought of networking can be intimidating!

Awkward small talk, endless self-promotion, and the fear of saying the wrong thing. But at Manchester Tech Festival, networking doesn’t have to feel like a high-pressure sales pitch. Here’s how to make meaningful connections without the stress.

1. Start with what you have in common

Unsure how to start a conversation? You already have at least one thing in common with everyone in the room—you’ve attended the same talks. Jot down some notes, share your thoughts, and ask others what they thought. It’s a natural way to break the ice.

2. Take Advantage of Breaks

MTF schedules plenty of breaks throughout the day. Use these moments to grab a coffee, enjoy some refreshments, and strike up a conversation. A casual chat over a drink can be the perfect way to meet someone new.

3. Keep It Casual and Genuine

Remember, networking isn’t about collecting the most contacts—it’s about having meaningful conversations. Be curious, listen actively, and bring your authentic self. Even a single thoughtful chat can lead to a lasting connection.

4. Explore the Exhibition Area

All MTF events have companies exhibiting. These booths aren’t just for grabbing swag—though that’s a perk! Exhibitors are there to engage with attendees, so asking questions or starting a conversation here is an easy way to connect.

5. Use the MTF Event App

The MTF Event App makes networking simple and secure. Your QR code allows you to swap details with other attendees and stay in touch for up to six months. The app also has event chats and talk-specific chats, letting you post pictures or comment without the nerves of approaching someone in person.

6. Don’t Forget Social Media

While the app is great for staying connected, social platforms like LinkedIn are still valuable. Grab someone’s details after a talk or exhibition chat and connect online—it’s an easy way to maintain relationships beyond the festival.

Finally, remember that MTF is as much about enjoying the festival as it is about connecting with others. Take your time, soak it all in, and let conversations happen organically! If you need help on the day – just grab a member of the MTF Team or a volunteer and we’ll help you to strike up a conversation and connect you with others in the room!
